Jeffrey Williams, Executive Director
Jeff loves the vibrancy and energy of a strong community – which he sees as the cornerstone of The Saybrook at Haddam’s success. He came to The Saybrook at Haddam in 2016 with the goal of continuing to build and nurture this senior community, maintain a high quality of life for residents, and provide a great work environment for all staff. He has worked in leadership roles at Atria Senior Living in Rocky Hill, Conn., at Benchmark Senior Living in Waterbury, and at The Gables in Farmington. He also worked at several regional YMCAs where he vastly improved operations, enrollment and community support. His focus on creative problem solving leads to innovation, openness, and a sense of welcoming that benefits all. Jeff earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Ithaca College.
David Downey, Director of Marketing
David’s sales and marketing efforts have quickly made The Saybrook at Haddam one of the most successful senior retirement communities in the region. He works with potential residents and families to introduce them to the exceptional quality of life seniors enjoy at The Saybrook at Haddam. He also communicates closely with local professionals, referral services, senior organizations, doctors, hospitals, rehab centers and other organizations about the high level of personalized service and care provided at the community. David’s successful 25-year career has included sales and marketing at the upscale Pomperaug Woods community in Southbury, Conn., at the 55+ community Powder Forest Homes in Simsbury, Conn., and at Ashlar Village (Masonicare) in Wallingford, Conn.
Cathy Carter, Director of Community Outreach
Cathy comes to the Saybrook at Haddam with a wealth of marketing, public relations and communications experience. She served as community outreach director for The Bridges at Lake Whitney independent and assisted living community in Hamden, Conn., and as marketing director for The Bradley Home senior residence and skilled nursing center in Meriden, Conn. As the director of community outreach, Cathy helps increase the visibility and awareness of The Saybrook at Haddam and its Safe Harbor memory care neighborhood, working to educate key professional, referral sources, and families about this premier living destination. Cathy earned her Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of New Haven, and her Bachelor’s degree in Public Management from the University of Maine, Orono.
Kathy Hallett, Safe Harbor Director
Kathy Hallett manages the day-to-day and long-term efforts at The Saybrook at Haddam’s Safe Harbor Memory Care Neighborhood. She brings a rich background in dementia and senior care as well as in education and marketing to this role, leveraging her skills in customer service and communications to build strong, open relationships with residents and their families. Kathy has worked with rehab patients and dementia residents at Aurora Senior Living in East Hartford, the Bloomfield Center for Health and Rehabilitation, and Atria Greenridge Place in Rocky Hill. In these positions, she focused on bringing out the best in each resident and maintaining their high quality of life. She is trained in Reiki, therapeutic recreation, and grief counseling, and is a community dementia facilitator for the Alzheimer’s Association. She earned a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in English with a minor in psychology from Central Connecticut State University, as well as an Associate’s Degree in liberal arts from the Hartford College for Women.
Diane Carigliano, RN, Director of Wellness
Diane Carigliano heads up the wellness team at The Saybrook at Haddam, overseeing the daily care plans for each resident at The Saybrook at Haddam and the Safe Harbor Memory Care neighborhood. She manages a team of RNs, CNAs, LPNs along with relationships with outside nursing and healthcare agencies. Diane has spent her entire career working in the healthcare field, with seniors as well as with children and adolescents. She was a child psychiatric nurse at both Elmcrest and the Institute of Living in Hartford, was an outpatient individual therapist for InterCommunity Health Care in East Hartford, and worked at the Cromwell Children’s Home before moving into senior care. She worked at The Hearth retirement community in Branford and Atria Greenridge Place assisted living in Rocky Hill before coming to The Saybrook at Haddam. She earned a BSM degree in nursing and healthcare management from Charter Oak College and an Associate’s Degree in nursing from Greater Hartford Community College.
Joseph A. Irving, Senior Director, Assisted Living, MCAP Funds
Throughout his 25-year career, Joe has been involved in the daily operations, marketing and management of retirement and assisted living facilities in the eastern United States. In his role at MCAP Advisers LLC, owners of The Saybrook at Haddam, Joe works to position and operate senior residences to their fullest potential. Prior to joining MCAP, Joe was owner of Senior Housing Solutions, LLC, management and consulting firm, and vice president of residential services for Loretto, central New York’s largest provider of services for seniors. In each role, Joe’s focus has been steadfastly on the senior residents and their families, working to ensure they receive high value, quality service, and exceptional care while under his management. Joe earned a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Sociology and Gerontology from St. John Fisher College in Rochester, New York.
Ann Bertini, Director of Recreation for Safe Harbor
Ann leads the Safe Harbor recreational therapy team to plan and implement daily activities specially designed for residents with Alzheimer’s, dementia, and other memory-related illnesses. Previously, Ann worked at Kindred Crossings East in New London, Conn., as a recreation assistant for memory care residents, and as an administrative assistant for the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. She also was a corporate communications editor and special projects manager with The Associated Press in New York. There, she served as editor of the retiree newsletter and helped edit the “Memories of World War II” photo book and exhibit. A graduate of Georgetown University, Ann earned her certificate in therapeutic recreation from Middlesex Community College.
Barry Osalza, Maintenance Director
Barry brings more than 25 years in maintenance and housekeeping management skills to The Saybrook at Haddam where he oversees the daily and long-term upkeep of the community, including all housekeeping services. In addition to his onsite team, he works with all contractors and necessary tradesmen to care for the building’s interior and exterior as well as the grounds and gardens. Barry also plays a key role in developing the safety and emergency plans for the community, helping create an exceptional environment for residents, staff and visitors. A life-long resident of East Haddam, Barry can be seen playing guitar at various local fundraisers and civic events. He earned an Associate’s Degree in Arts and Sciences from Johnson & Wales in Rhode Island.
