Living with Alzheimer’s, dementia or other memory-related illness means new and different struggles occur each and every day. There is no standardized solution for treating or managing memory care, since these diseases affect each individual so differently. However, families and caregivers can benefit greatly from the growing amount of information and support services available. That is why The Saybrook at Haddam is hosting a new, free “Senior Solutions” educational series, entirely dedicated to dementia.
This series, which is sponsored by Elder Life Care Planning, LLC, of Clinton, was designed to give families the tools they need to navigate daily living with Alzheimer’s or other form of dementia. Each of the three free events features local experts who offer information, advice, resources, and helpful strategies that can make all the difference for the patient and the caregiver. Each event also will include delicious desserts, drinks and lighter-fare foods from The Saybrook at Haddam’s professional kitchen.
We are excited to host this next round of our popular “Seniors Solutions” program. When we host these events, we can tell attendees feel a sense of relief to learn there is so much information and so many resources available to them regarding retirement living, senior health care, and aging in general. This special emphasis on Alzheimer’s and dementia is particularly important to us since we work daily with residents who have memory-related issues in our Safe Harbor neighborhood.
Since we opened Safe Harbor, we have carefully created a daily living program that is highly respectful of each resident. We designed a warm and welcoming environment that includes many areas for large and small group activities, as well as for quiet conversations. Our daily activities encourage socialization and participation, and we place a strong emphasis on nutrition, hydration, and overall wellness. We also take countless steps to include family and friends in the lives of each resident, bringing them together for game nights, special dinners, entertainment and other daily events. We know how important it is to have individualized care programs for each resident – and we recognize these programs need to be revised regularly to respond to changes in the memory-care resident. It is work we love.
Seniors who have a memory-related illness can still enjoy a high-quality life. We hope our next “Senior Solutions” series helps families and caregivers find the best information to make this possible for the seniors in their lives. We hope to see you there!
