The Saybrook at Haddam Celebrates Expansion and Success with Community

June 12, 2015

Popular Retirement and Assisted Living Community Hosts Open House for Families, Neighbors, Leaders

As a way of showcasing the new expansion and success in retirement, assisted living and memory care services, The Saybrook at Haddam held two open house events for business leaders, families and other community members. Visitors received an inside look at the gracious manor with tours of the elegantly decorated common areas, outdoor courtyards, stylish dining areas, and spacious apartments.

TSAH_OpenHouse_smAlthough private tours are held daily, these open house events were the first time the public was able to freely tour the community since it completed a 15,000-square-foot expansion in January of 2015. The addition was primarily to the Safe Harbor memory care neighborhood (serving residents suffering from Alzheimer’s, dementia and other memory-related disorders) which includes 17 new apartments, a new dining and living room, and new common areas. Six new one- and two-bedroom apartments were also added to the independent and assisted living part of the community.

“The Saybrook at Haddam is truly a success story within this community, with two expansions completed in recent years,” Sarah Sullo, director of education for The Connecticut Assisted Living Association, said during one of the open house tours. “Families and residents in this area have come to know The Saybrook at Haddam and the Safe Harbor Memory Care neighborhood as warm, nurturing and supportive. We are excited to be part of this celebration.”

The Saybrook at Haddam has also become a leader in the regional business community through its memberships in the Old Saybrook Chamber of Commerce and the Middlesex Chamber of Commerce. David Downey, The Saybrook at Haddam’s Community Relations Director, currently serves as chairman of the Haddam Division of the Middlesex Chamber and is an active supporter of Chamber events in the town. Jeff Pugliese, vice president of the Middlesex Chamber, attended the open house event to offer support for the community’s accomplishments.

“This region is fortunate to have The Saybrook at Haddam to fulfill such an important need in retirement, assisted living and memory care, to provide great jobs, and add to our beautiful surroundings,” he said. “The leadership team here has done a great job, and the Chamber is proud to encourage their continued success.”

Kathy Ryan, executive director at The Saybrook at Haddam, was pleased that the business and local community came to these events. “We always love showing off our beautiful community and explaining our approach to retirement living and memory care,” she said. “We have worked very hard to create an environment based on dignity, respect and kindness, which has been the cornerstone of our success. We also promote the highest quality of life for all residents, offering countless events and activities for everyone to stay physically, culturally and socially engaged.”
